Changing contrast method by hand means reaching into the light path mid-experiment and reproducing a setting by feel. A motorized condenser removes that: the turret position is a value in the acquisition software, recalled identically every time, which is the only way a brightfield-phase-DIC sequence stays comparable across sessions.
The T-CT-E is Nikon's motorized condenser for the Eclipse Ti-E and TE2000 platforms, at 0.52 long working distance so it clears deep vessels, with DIC N2 and PhL positions and settings marked 10, 20 and 40.
