At half a metre of focal length on a 2 inch aperture this is a very slow lens, and that is the point. The wavefront it introduces is gentle, spherical aberration stays low, and the focus holds over a long distance, which is what long-path measurement and large-ratio beam expansion need.
Paired with a 50 mm element it gives ten times expansion in a single stage. N-BK7 substrate with the A antireflection coating, covering roughly 350 to 700 nm.
