A blade shutter sweeps across the beam from one side, so during the transition the beam is half blocked and asymmetric. A diaphragm closes symmetrically from all sides, which keeps the transmitted beam centred throughout and makes the timing behaviour predictable.
This is the SHB1 one-inch stainless steel diaphragm shutter with its SHM1/M mount holder. Read this before ordering: the controller is not included, and the shutter will not operate without one.
